Dental crowns and bridges in Medellín

Dental crowns and bridges in Medellín, from $2,500,000 COP per tooth, in zirconia or lithium disilicate. A bridge is priced the same way, one crown for each tooth in it.

No crown is made in a single visit, and if you are travelling for it, the number that matters is 8 to 10 full business days. Both of those are explained below.

When a crown is more than the tooth needs

A crown covers the whole tooth. There are two smaller things we can do instead, and both are worth knowing about before you agree to one.

If the tooth is sound and what bothers you is its colour or its shape, a veneer covers only the front and leaves more of your own tooth in place. See dental veneers.

If the tooth is damaged but still has healthy walls, a ceramic onlay replaces only the broken part instead of covering everything. It costs the same as a crown, so nothing about the price pushes the decision either way. See white fillings and ceramic onlays.

A crown is for a tooth that has lost too much to hold either: cracked through, worn down, heavily filled or root-treated. If that is yours, the rest of this page is for you.

No single material is best for every tooth

Zirconia is the stronger of the two. It holds up to heavy chewing forces, which makes it a good choice for molars and for anyone who grinds.

Lithium disilicate handles light the way a real tooth does. When a front tooth has to disappear among its neighbours, that optical quality is what makes it work.

Both cost the same here, so the choice is clinical, not financial. Our prosthodontists pick the material tooth by tooth, according to where it sits, how your bite loads it, how much natural tooth is left and how visible it is.

A clinic that uses the same crown for every tooth has made that decision before meeting you.

What a bridge costs

A bridge is one piece spanning a gap. It rests on the teeth either side and carries a replacement tooth between them.

A crown covers one tooth. A bridge is a single piece that rests on the teeth either side of a gap and carries the missing tooth between them.

Each tooth in the bridge is priced as a crown, including the replacement tooth, because it is made the same way, from the same material, in the same laboratory. A bridge for one missing tooth is three crowns: the two teeth either side, and the replacement between them. Starting price from $7,500,000 COP.

Longer spans are quoted after the examination.

If you are missing a single tooth, it is worth comparing a bridge against a dental implant. A bridge means preparing the two healthy teeth beside the gap. An implant does not touch them.

When the tooth has to be rebuilt first

Some teeth have lost too much structure to hold a crown, through decay, a fracture, a large old filling, or root canal treatment.

In those cases a core build-up rebuilds the missing part first and gives the crown something solid to sit on. From $500,000 COP per tooth.

Not every tooth needs one. Whether yours does is decided at the examination, not at the front desk.

No crown is made in one visit

The laboratory needs days. Plan on 8 to 10 full business days from the first appointment to the final fitting.

More crowns means more time. If a tooth needs root canal treatment first, it takes longer still.

If you live in Medellín, this is a handful of appointments across about two weeks, fitted around your schedule.

If you are travelling for it, note that those are business days, not calendar days. Eight business days is a week and a half once weekends are counted.

Colombia also has a high number of public holidays, and most of them fall on a Monday. A week with two of them can add days to a laboratory process that was otherwise on schedule. Coordinate your dates with our team before you book your flights, and we will plan the appointments around them.

What happens at the first appointment

A clinical examination, your dental history, X-rays, and in many cases moulds of your teeth. That is what it takes to say anything precise.

If you are travelling, you are welcome to send us what you already have — photographs, previous X-rays — and we will give you preliminary guidance. It helps, and it is not the same as an examination. Your exact plan and your exact figure are confirmed here, after we have looked.

Rebuilding a whole mouth

Full mouth rehabilitation is not simply a larger number of crowns. It is a different problem, and the diagnosis carries the whole treatment.

The plan often includes work that comes before any crown: periodontal surgery, root canal treatment, and sometimes extractions and implants.

If that is what you are considering, write to us with what you know. We will tell you what the first step looks like and roughly how long the whole thing takes, before you commit to anything.
