Dental implants in Medellín, from $3,500,000 COP for the implant and $3,800,000 COP for the crown that goes on it, quoted as separate stages because they happen months apart.

Why nobody can quote you properly before an examination

The price of an implant depends on two things: the state of the tooth that is there now, and how much bone you have to place it in.

Neither can be judged from a photograph. Photographs and previous X-rays help, and you are welcome to send them before you travel — we will give you a preliminary idea and say plainly that it is preliminary.

The treatment plan comes from a clinical examination and a 3D CBCT scan here. That is what tells us whether you need an extraction, whether the implant can go in immediately, whether bone grafting is needed, and whether it can be done in one stage or two.

It is also what stops us from recommending something based on an assumption.

Who plans it, and who places it

Two specialists, not one. Planning an implant and placing it are different jobs, and in this clinic they are done by different people.

It is a distinction worth asking about wherever you go. A plan written by the person who will also restore the tooth, and surgery done by someone who does only surgery, is not the same as one dentist doing all of it.

The first appointment

Depending on your case we may also recommend a periodontal evaluation, because an implant goes into bone and gums, and both have to be healthy enough to hold it.

How long it takes

After the implant is placed, the bone has to grow onto it. That process is called osseointegration and it takes 4 to 6 months. It cannot be hurried, and it is the reason implant treatment is measured in months rather than days.

If significant bone regeneration is needed first, the graft needs about 5 to 8 months to heal before the implant goes in, and then the 4 to 6 months of integration after it.

Which is why most patients need:

Two visits	when the implant can be placed on the first treatment visit
Three visits	when bone regeneration has to heal before the implant

What an immediate implant does and does not mean

In selected cases we can remove the tooth, place the implant and graft bone in the same appointment. We do this often and it saves you a stage.

It is not always possible and not always advisable. Whether it is depends on the bone available, the state of the socket, whether there is infection, and whether we can get the implant stable enough to leave in place.

And an immediate implant does not automatically mean an immediate tooth. Whether you leave with a fixed temporary depends on your case. We would rather you heard that here than discovered it in the chair, especially if you flew in for this.

If you need bone grafting

Some patients do not have enough bone to hold an implant safely. Grafting rebuilds it.

Grafting ranges from $2,000,000 to $4,800,000 COP, and that is a wide range for a reason. It depends on how much bone has to be built, whether more than one type of graft material is combined, whether a membrane is used for guided bone regeneration, and whether platelet-rich plasma is used.

Those are different procedures, not different prices for the same one. Yours is quoted after the CBCT shows what is actually there.

Sometimes the graft and the implant go in together. Sometimes it is safer to rebuild the bone first and let it heal before placing anything into it.

The crown on top

Once the implant has integrated, the tooth itself is made: a titanium abutment and a zirconia crown, $3,800,000 COP per implant.

If your case needs a custom-made abutment rather than a stock one, that is $1,200,000 COP more. Which components yours needs is explained and included in your quotation, not added afterwards.

Planning a trip around it

Plan on 10 to 12 days in Medellín per treatment visit. That covers the procedure, the postoperative check, the follow-up and any laboratory work. Complex cases need longer.

Write to us before you buy flights. Implant treatment happens in stages separated by months, so the dates have to be built around the biology rather than the other way round. We would rather tell you that your dates do not work while you can still change them.
